First thing first, we came up with our team name :Pink republic, since both of us are girls we can be as lovely as possible. We talked about group members’ specialities, our responsibilities for each member , our work norms, as well as our team goal.
The main jobs for this week is to observe the site. This is our fist time visit Sydenham skate park. We found this park is really awesome, with so many amateurs and professionals. We observed their skating tracks and motions. A static map was conduced based on skaters traces.

we also did some researches on this park. The location of the site designated for the SGSS forms part of the Marrickville Council master plan for the redevelopment and activation of the precinct. The prospective site presents an opportunity for the Marrickville Council to develop a skate facility in a vestige of unused space. Easily accessible by vehicle and public transport, the space is available to all demographics and provides the opportunity to lift the public profile of youth.
Historically, the site was established with 14 residential homes. Due
to the impact of busy flight paths overhead, these were demolished as the living conditions were deemed unfit for residential purposes. Today, the site exists as an informal open space bordered by the remnants of its residential past and scattered with various tree species. The space forms part of the existing Sydenham Green precinct including basketball courts, artist studios, a fitness park and other public parkland space.
Talk with the player:
We interviewed several skaters and talked about the site with them. We have found something on the site from individuals:
- the most difficult one lies right in front of the chill area.
- the first one from the western is for warm up
- wood shavings can be a danger for skater
After the first visit of at Sydenham park, we have generated some thoughts in terms of our concept. The park was a lack of playful and artistic interventions in this site, therefore one of our concepts will focus on the playful character. Interaction with the audiences was worth considering.
