In this week we need to form as a group and prepare for the first site visit to Sydenham green skate park. We need to apply the technique of mapping space( the design method that we practiced individually last week) to capture the skaters and surrounding people’s movement, and the use of space through time. This is the first group activity of “3style”, we thought this would be an excellent opportunity for us to know each other better. Therefore, we came up with a plan: we do whatever we want through the activity and share our experience and outcome after the observation.
During the observation, each of us focuses on a different point of view. I mainly focus on the skatepark’s surrounding facilities such as the carparks, artist studios, basketball court and the old building behind the skatepark. More importantly, I notice the airplane on top of the park and try to record the trails on the tracing paper; Suki focuses on skaters’ habits, such as how they interact with the park and which area do they prefer to skate and practice. She finds out which area most people interact with and which area has less interaction by the users; Rayelene focus on skaters movement such as how they do the trick, she’s the only one who also drew the static map of a physical site.
After the observation, we shared what we saw and what elicitation we got via the investigation. Each of us also came up with different key findings and outcomes( photos, videos, etc.) It’s good to know that every one of us has a different point of views and techniques. We believed that we could work well as a team for the following section. Despite, our sitemap still need more reworking and editing. We will organize another time to revisit the site hopefully we can find out more critical findings and inspirations.
