In-progess Presentation – Week 8 – Skater bois

This week our team  put together a presentation that helped illustrate our concept and current progress. The presentation touched upon the general layout, applications, and outputs that will be used for our concept. We decided that the main programs and devices that will be used are:

GyrOSC – phone app that uses sensors in phone to send data

Processing, Max 7, Ableton – visual programming language for audio, visual and other multimedia

wearable device – such as a speaker or phone to output audio feedback

Our design relies heavily on IMU data. So we layed out which data mapping input and output parameters we wanted to use for our project. The inputs would include: Gyroscope, accelerometer, rotation rates, and compass. Using these data inputs we are hoping to generate particular outputs such as notes/octaves, operators/oscillators, tempo, and volume. The idea is that each input, controls a single output. (ex. gyroscope determines the tempo, rotation the volume, etc.)

Next week we will have to have decide on which relationships, constraints, thresholds, and operators we would like to incorporate and use.

Overall the purpose of the Skating: Sonified is to create a attentiveness and auditory perception of the skater’s performance. Our belief is that if the skater can produce something visually and audibly, they will have better relationship or perhaps more motivation in what they are doing.
