Event day

微信图片_20181111144721.jpgLast weekend, our group participated in the Pilot Sk.8 event.

Since last week, we have been updating the circuit and LED effects of our project.

This main work include:

Check if all the cable and circuits connected well. We reinstalled all the LED strips and and battery boxes. By testing, we discover that the resistance of one wire is beyond 300k Ohm(apparently it is open circuit). We prepared couples of auxiliary wires in case of this situation.

The event began at 4:00 pm, we finished all installation before 3:00. But I(Calvin) forgot to close laptop in case of running out of all the battery, even though I had another laptop as substitution.

Because it is too bright to recognize the LED colors, so we upload an modified example code of Neopixel, so these LED strips are presenting some rainbow pattern without interaction.

7:00 pm, we updated the batteries. When we ran the processing code, we found that the processing cannot receive IMU data from one of the two iPhone.  It means only one iPhone could transmit the data.

Debuging

We were checking all the software if there any bugs. What makes us desperate is we literally found nothing for almost 1 hour.

However, after I shut down the App and open again, I found that the Processing got the messages!

After that, Christina started to find user to finish the test table and Aaron started to film.

Here are our test form:

According to this test, we invited 5 participants to evaluate our design.

From the observation form and interview question, we found:

Most of player can understand and interact with our design properly, without specific instruction. However, a small amount of players had few questions, especially for skaters, since skaters were hard to see our light effect when they were skating. Therefore, the interesting level of our installation for skaters is not really high. This is a main issue of our design.

In addition, we are told that we lacked some basic guidance before inviting players. We should explain more details to them, it also means, the interaction with our device is pretty complex, we need time to explain how it works.

Finally, this event was quite successful. A lot of players liked our design and feeling happy and impressive about our design.

Video Day

On 8 Nov, Thursday,

Aaron and I reinstalled our project on Sydenham Skatepark for the Video.

I arrived at skatepark at around 4:30 pm. After finishing installing,  I took some video about our project from different perspectives. These clips are used to present a status that our project without interaction.

While night fell, I invited Roy as a role of audience. According to my storyboard of video. we shot couples of clips about how audience interacting with our Cheering Box and relative LED effects. 微信截图_20181112145026

Then we were looking for a skater who can corporate with us. However, because they were playing as a group and competing with each other and our ability of expression or differences in culture, several skaters refused euphemistically.

Finally, one skater were willing to help us with the video. We shots some clips about interacting and skating.

After shooting these videos, we went back to the faculty.

However, when I started to edit our video, I found that several clips were missing from the albums(maybe because of bugs of the App we used). I planned to shot a video about connection, but all the clips we shot at skatepark are missing. I had no idea what to do before Roy and Bing Jiang (James) told me that they are glad to be actors while re-shooting in Uni.

Our Video:

Thanks to Roy and Bing Jiang.
